A trip to Bentota

About 15 families from our local church traveled down south to Bentota (60 Kms from Colombo) to spend 2 days away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo. The dates were 1st and 2nd of May, both being Sri Lankan holidays owing to Vesak. Well Chrish had to appear for her Trinity College Music theory exam on the 5th but still she decided that taking a break just before her exams is something good for her.

I and Chrish would have preferred a trip like this to be of at least 3 days. It is rather tiring to drive to the hotel on day one and drive back from the hotel on day two. However since it was a group trip and also keeping Chrish’s exam in mind we didn’t try extending the stay.

I am not able to post any photos immediately since I have not yet received my digital camera after repairs from US and hence need to rely on others to supply me some photos.

The beach was beautiful but other than that the trip was not that great. To top it the hotel (Lihiniya Surf Hotel) was lousy. I thought I would submit a review about this hotel. My review is not to dissuade anyone from visiting this hotel but just to let them know what is in store for them so that they can make an informed decision.

I and Chrish had traveled to Bentota last during our honeymoon in 2003 and during that time we stayed at a different hotel (Hotel Ceysands). This time during our drive I noticed that the 3 wheel auto rickshaw population has tremendously increased in the highway and their callous driving makes life difficult for other road users.

Thank God, we enjoyed clear skies during our stay. The very next day after our return, Colombo and suburbs experienced heavy showers that left most of the roads under water and even creating a massive crate along a main highway (Galle Road). More...
