Are you a servant-king?

You would have heard the phrase "Servant-King" in relation to Christ Jesus. Yes, Christ Jesus is the King of kings but still during his first advent on this earth he came to serve mankind. He came to receive us to His glory & for that He humbled Himself as a servant (Phil 2:7) & went to the cross (Phil 2:8) to secure us Salvation. In the whole history, it is only in Christ Jesus the two contrasting positions Servant and King co-existed. It is true that He is always the King but during His first advent He showed Himself only as a servant. But one day He is going to come again and this time not as a servant but in glory & power to rule this earth. (Revelation 1:7)Are you ready to meet Him?

The Holy Bible also tells us to have the mind of Christ (Phil 2:5) and that Christ has left us an example for us to follow (1 Peter 2:21). We are asked to be servants like Christ Jesus in that we ought to reach out to the people perishing around us. We are not called to be selfish like the rest of the world always thinking of making our life comfortable, amass wealth for ourselves or further ourselves in this world. Instead we are asked to spend our time, energy, resources and everything else at our disposal primarily to spread the Good News of the Gospel (that Christ Jesus can give us forgiveness and freedom from sin and get us back to God and give the real purpose to live on this earth). Most of the time believers in Christ Jesus think that this is their secondary duty. No, this is our primary duty. Our daily choices should be based keeping this in mind. Jesus Christ kept on giving to others and never received anything good from anyone. All He got in return were accusations, false charges and finally a cruel death. Can you list one selfish act (to further Himself) that Jesus ever did when He was on this earth? But if we look into our lives how many times we have made decisions based on our selfish needs and not based on the Kingdom of God (Mt 6:25-33). God has called you with a purpose and that is the only purpose for your life. If you are not in the center of His purpose for your life, you are no better than an unsaved sinner in this world. Here is a simple test to determine if you are in the center of His purpose for your life.. How many minutes a day do you spend worrying about your job, your studies, your future, your family, about what you are going to eat, about what you are going to dress tomorrow, about how you could have a good time during the weekend, about your future, about your family etc? Now calculate how many minutes a day do you spend thinking about how to reach out for God today, to whom you could share the Good News today, for whom you could pray today etc?

If we follow Christ's footsteps and be a servant for the sake of the Kingdom of God then He has promised us a part in His future Kingdom when He returns to this earth as the King of kings (Rev 3:21). He has called us to be kings in His Kingdom but to get there we need to follow the steps of Christ. If not we will never get there and only would be fooling ourselves. The "call to kingship" is available freely by grace to all who believe in Christ Jesus and every believer is "called" to be a king in the Kingdom of Christ Jesus. However "kingship" itself is not offered as a freebie. You need to answer the calling by being a servant on this earth just like Christ Jesus. If out of your own selfish stupidity and arrogance you choose to be otherwise you disqualify to be a king in His kingdom (2 Tim 2:12). The choice is your? What would you choose?

Below are the verses I have referred to.

Philippians 2:5-11
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

1 Peter 2:21
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

Mt 6:25-33
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Revelation 3:21
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

2 Tim 2:12
If we endure, We shall also reign with Him.

Revelation 1:7
Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
